Before I dive into my personal review of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS), one of the primary considerations I had in selecting a new bag was the compartment space to fit all of my equipment. I consider myself a heavy-packer as it comes to badminton, which made me gravitate towards selecting the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS). Here’s a list of the typical badminton equipment that I bring with me to the badminton court:

  • Pair of badminton shoes
  • 3 badminton racquets
  • 2 tubes of shuttles (one for warm-up, one for games)
  • Sweatband
  • Headband
  • Pack of overgrips
  • 2-3 hand-towels
  • 2 extra t-shirts
  • 1 change of clothing – socks, underwear, t-shirt, and pants
  • Pair of scissors to snip cut the badminton strings if they snap during play
  • Extra badminton strings
  • Deodorant
  • Bottle of shoe deodorizer

Writing that out, I am sort of surprised by how much stuff I lug around. And while this may be more than most people since I tend to work up a sweat and need extra changes of clothing, you may also be surprised by how much badminton equipment you will need to transport. And this is not including non-badminton material like your cellphone, wallet, and keys!

Now without further ado, let’s dive into the review of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)

Size and Capacity of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)

The dimensions of the Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) are: 30.7 x 15 x 13 in (78 x 38 x 33 cm)

The bag is pretty spacious with its 3 main compartments. The bag was large enough to easily fit all of the equipment that I listed above with substantial room to spare. There was definitely room for a couple more racquets and tubes of shuttles.

Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9PCS). Filled with Badminton Equipment.

While this bag is marketed as being able to fit 9 racquets, I was very pleased with this bag even though I only carry 3 racquets. It meant that there was room for all the other badminton equipment that are essential to me. Thinking back to one of my earlier badminton racket bags – the Yonex All England 100th Anniversary Bag – I remember needing to always pack my equipment in so tightly that the bag seemed to be bursting at the seams. At times, I would have to forego some of my extra changes of clothing, which would always leave me with regret on particularly hot or sweaty badminton sessions.

While there are 3 main compartments to store your equipment in the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS), it’s important to note that the included shoe storage compartment extends into the larger middle compartment. This however, doesn’t take too much away from the amount of space that is left to pack your equipment in and around the shoes.

Outside of the three compartments, there is a thinner side pocket along one of the sides of the bag which is perfect to store your valuables such as cellphone, wallet, and keys. This pocket is especially handy for keeping sharp items such as scissors or keys away from your racquets and other equipment. Especially if you don’t keep your racquets in individual racquet sleeves, you want to make sure to keep sharp items away from damaging your racquet or strings.

Outstanding Features of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)

Features Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0

Two of the more notable features on the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) are: the thermo guard and the adjustable bucket.

Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9PCS). Thermo Guard.

Thermo Guard  the thermo guard is a pretty cool technology that uses an insulated lining in the bag to protect racquets (and strings!) from drastic changes in temperature. Extreme temperatures can make the badminton strings more prone to breaking or can even affect the string tension. This is an exclusive feature in the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) and the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (12 PCS).

Where I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, temperatures don’t necessarily get to the extremes – either on the cold or hot front. Therefore, this premium feature may not necessarily be needed as much as someone who lives in a particularly cold location, like Toronto, Canada or a particularly hot place like Southern California.

Regardless, I still had more peace of mind knowing that I was storing my racquets in the thermo guarded compartment.

Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9PCS) - Adjustable Buckles

Adjustable buckle – the adjustable buckle attaches the two shoulder straps to the bag. It is made in a way that it rotates slightly to align with where the straps are positioned and is supposed to better withstand wear and tear.

More than anything, this feature boosted comfort for me while carrying around a bag full of badminton equipment. The adjustable buckle allowed for the bag to sit snugly on my shoulders without the weight of the bag shifting while I was carrying it on my back.

High Quality Material and Design of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)

The Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) has a plastic zipper and zipper puller, which I suspect will be long lasting. The Yonex bags that I had in the past – we are talking ones that have been in use for over a decade – had zippers and zipper pullers made of metal. Towards the end of its lifespan, these metal zippers were starting to rust and even snap!

The Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) has a comfortable and sturdy handle located at the top of the bag. While it took me a moment to get used to the placement, I came to appreciate it.

Prior to switching to the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS), I was using the Yonex 7629EX Racquet Bag. This bag caught my attention because it was big enough to actually fit 9 tennis rackets and included enough compartments to also fit all of my badminton equipment. While I really liked this bag, the reason I had to retire this bag (RIP!) was because it the handle, which was located at the middle of the bag started to rip. My suspicion is that repeated lifting of the bag using the handle in the middle placed a lot of stress on the material around the handle causing it to tear.

The Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)’s handle location makes it so that you would only pull it when trying to move the bag instead of when carrying it, as it would be rather awkward to hold the bag for long with where the handle is placed. I think this will save the bag from ripping around the handle.

Another smart design choice of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) that I prefer over my previous bag is the location of the shoe compartment. The shoe compartment of the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) is at the top of the badminton bag. If you have your bag sitting on the bench, you can easily store or remove your shoes from the the compartment.

Compared to my previous bag, where the shoe compartment was located on the underside of the bag, it became a hassle to have to flip the bag upside down from where you would have been accessing your racquets, shuttles, and other badminton equipment just to access your badminton shoes.

And finally, the shape of the bag is made in a port shape, which is designed to reduce the burden on the shoulders for the carrier.

Critical Thoughts on the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS)

  1. The size of this bag may not be suitable for younger players or those who don’t carry as much equipment. The bag can be too bulky or heavy for light packers, which can be a burden to carry around.
  2. Design can be improved to include a way to carry the bag horizontally. With the current location of the handle, it is difficult to carry the bag like a briefcase, outside of holding both straps of the bag together.
  3. Does not include a zipped inner pocket within the bag. This bag contains a small elastic pouch within the small side pocket. However, it would be idea if this pouch had a zipper instead in order to keep items, such as loose change or a small pair of scissors, completely separate from the other items within the pocket.

Conclusion

While I have only just started using the Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS) as my new trusted bag, I am already sure that it will become my favorite bag to date. Not only is the size of the bag able to fit the entire collection of badminton equipment that I find essential to bring with me to each session, but it is stylish to the eye, comfortable to carry, and seems durable and long-lasting.

I got my bag from the amazing Yumo badminton shop. This is a badminton-specific store that carries a wide selection of the latest and greater badminton equipment. If you’re located in Canada or the USA, definitely check this store out as they also have the option of free shipping for eligible orders. If you’re located in other countries, fret not! You can still receive orders from Yumo with a shipping fee.

I would definitely recommend players who carry around 3+ rackets and more clothing and items to consider this bag. And especially if you live in intemperate locations where you experience extreme heat or coldness, this bag will be a great choice.

Those who may need to commute longer distances without their own personal ride or pack lighter (less than 3 rackets, fewer changes of clothing, etc…) should look at smaller and lighter bag options such as the Yonex 82012LEX Active Large Backpack or the Yonex BAG42123EX – Team Racket Bag (3 PCS).

If you have yourself a Yonex Pro Racquet Bag (9 PCS), let me know what your thoughts on the bag are!
