Welcome to yet another honest product review. Today, I will be reviewing the Yonex Super Grap. For all my other reviews, check out the badminton equipment page.
I have finally come around to product testing the Yonex Super Grap even though it has been my go-to overgrip for a large majority of my 15+ years playing badminton. That’s the struggle when you get your hands on a bunch of grip products all at once. It was like Christmas came early with all these shiny new toys. But now I will shine the spotlight on the Yonex Super Grap, deservingly!
Part of why the Yonex Super Grap is so widely popular, is because it delivers great value for its price. By being a jack-of-all-trades, the grip delivers quality feel, comfort, and durability, giving the biggest bang for the buck.
[UPDATE] The Yonex Super Grap was my go-to grip after experimenting with different grip products throughout my badminton career, I’ve surprised myself in admitting I have a new favorite! The new supreme grip is the Yonex Clean Grap. Look out for my product review of the Yonex Clean Grap to find out why!
It’s important to note that the following review is being written after playing only one 1.5-hour session with the grip. I am also a player who sweats more than the average badminton player. So take those factors into consideration when reading on with the review.

The Yonex Super Grap is by far, Yonex’s most popular grip. Can we go so far as to claim it’s Yonex’s flagship grip? I’d say so! If you have not come across a racket that has this grip wrapped around the handle, can you really claim to be a badminton player?
In Yonex’s 2021 catalog, it is claimed that this particular grip has been sold enough times to wrap the around the world 5 times! I don’t know about you, but that fact alone is mind-blowing to me!
Backed by popular demand, it is not surprising that this grip comes in 11 different colors – the most variety out of all of Yonex’s grips. Players will surely be able to find one that suits their creative preferences. These colors are: white, black, green, yellow, deep blue, dark purple, citrus green, pink, wine red, orange, and french pink.
The Yonex Super Grap falls into the category of an overgrip. As I have described in my post covering the various Yonex Grips: overgrips refer to the type of grips that are appended on top of the original/replacement grips, increasing the thickness of the handle grip and offers additional gripping benefits.
The overall dimensions of the Yonex Super Grap are pretty standard to the majority of the over Yonex overgrips though in both length and width.
The Yonex Super Grap has a thickness of 0.6 mm, which is on the thinner side of the Yonex’s overgrips. Much thinner than the Yonex Hi Soft Grap (1.6 mm) and just shy of the Yonex Tacky Fit Grip (0.7 mm). The thickness of the Yonex Super Grap allows for the player to have more overall feel in racket handling.
The Yonex Super Grap can be viewed as a sort of all-around overgrip. It offers a wonderful blend of feeling, durability, and comfort for the user. While players shouldn’t expect the Yonex Super Grap to excel in any particular quality, they can depend on it to help them perform well on court. This grip is what I would imagine many players would associate as the golden standard for overgrips. This would be a wonderful choice for players who are just starting badminton and are not yet sure what qualities of a grip mean the most for them.
Overall, I would give the Yonex Super Grap a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0.
This is a fairly high score! Read on to find out exactly why this overgrip received these high marks.
Comfort
Comfort Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0
I define comfort as a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint. What I am looking for from a comfort aspect is if the product provides a pleasant gripping experience. From the sensation of holding the grip to the degree the grip makes the game play more enjoyable.
The Yonex Super Grap was quite comfortable to the touch. It has a pleasant spongey texture when you apply pressure on it with your fingers, but it is not as soft or as squishy as the Yonex Hi Soft Grap.
I will have to admit though, I may be be a little biased here when it comes to comfort as I have played with the Yonex Super Grap for so many years. But, this grip really felt familiar and truly natural when I picked up my racket. It has that sensation of being a perfect match, similar to when someone finds a shoe that just fits.
The Yonex Super Grap falls more towards the tacky end of the scale than the dry end. This quality gives it a more sticky feeling, creating more friction between your hand and the grip. A tackier grip allows you to hold onto the racket easier. As I mentioned above, given its all-around position, it’s no surprise that the Yonex Super Grap is incomparable to the Yonex Tacky Fit Grip when it comes to tackiness.
While the Yonex Super Grap is comfortable, there were others that out-perform it in this category, such as the Yonex Hi Soft Grap. Curious why? Read all about it in my review. A sense of familiarity does not necessarily equate to a perfect score, and I have faith that there are even better grips out there!
Durability
Durability Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0
I define durability as the ability to withstand wear, pressure, and damage. From a durability standpoint, I am looking for the grip product to remain intact and retain the same feel and quality as if it were newly applied.
From my experience playing with the Yonex Super Grap, it has always stuck out to me as a grip that lasts for a considerable period of time. And coming from a player who tends to have sweatier hands, finding a durable grip is a priority. Even between sessions, the grip doesn’t seem to easily lose its tackiness or spongey texture.
Now coming back from memory lane, let’s focus on this session itself. The Yonex Super Grap did not have any visible rips, tears, or blemishes of any sort at the end of my badminton session. The grip remained securely wrapped around the handle and most importantly felt as good as new.
You may be wondering — shouldn’t a grip used in only 1 session always feel as good as new? Surprisingly…no. There are 5 words that will explain this perfectly: Yonex Wet Super Grap Tough. Stay tuned for my product review of this grip to find out why!
After playing for what felt like a continuous 1.5 hour badminton session – seriously, there were maybe a 1-minute break here and there to towel off or take a sip of water – the Yonex Super Grap held its own. The grip was far from feeling like it was at its limit of absorbing sweat. On the contrary, the grip felt like it was just as fresh as when it was newly applied at the beginning of the session.
Feel
Feel Rating: 4.0 out of 5.0
I define feel as how well a player is able to maintain control over their shots by means of handling their racket. This involves how the grip aids the transmission of subtle movements from the player’s hand to the racket.
With the slightly thinner thickness of the Yonex Super Grap at 0.6 mm, it allowed for my hand to wrap around the racket handle more completely. In comparison to a thicker grip, like the Yonex Hi Soft Grap, thinner grips allow for players to play a more control-oriented game. Having the ability to more securely extend your fingers all the way around the racket handle, you are able to then exert subtle finger movements which can result in greater technical shots.
Playing with the Yonex Super Grap, I managed to execute my shots with ease. There was a great response of the racket on the shuttlecock from the different pressures I was applying from my hand onto the racket handle. Drops felt delicate but decisive. Switching from a flurry of drive exchanges to a tactical placement shot seemed effortless.
Overall, I felt very much in-sync with my racket. There’s a common saying in badminton that goes, “a racket should feel like an extension of your arm.” And with the Yonex Super Grap, it very much felt that way.
Critical Thoughts on the Yonex Super Grap
- Great all-around, but not exceptional. The Yonex Super Grap is more than your run-of-the-mill, standard grip. It performs above average across the board. However, players should not expect it to be an industry leader in any one category.
- Beyond the variety in color, it’s rather uninteresting. Compared to other grips like the Yonex Tacky Fit Grip, Yonex Wave Grap, or the Yonex Hi Soft Grap, which have interesting patterns or unique textures, the Yonex Super Grap feels a bit dull. There is nothing wrong with it, but there’s also nothing noteworthy about its appearance.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, it is indisputable that the Yonex Super Grap is still a solid choice for an overgrip. Would I continue using it? In a heartbeat. It has been a steady companion throughout my long badminton journey so far, and I intend to continue on with it until I find a suitable replacement for it.
